The Kenyan Ambassador to the US Dr. Robinson Githae, attended the pomp and circumstance cultural festival that was held in Atlanta Georgia for 3 days consecutively.

The traditional songs occasionally culminated to glorious climax that would force the Ambassador at times to show all in attendance that he is no push over when it comes to shaking a leg and true as put, he challenged many including the celebrated musician cum cultural Ambassador Emmy Kosgey.

He graced the three day occasion from start to finish and many were left in amazement by his humility and down to earth stance as he easily intermingled while charting to all in attendance.

The Ambassador’s speech at the end of the festival advised couples to stay clear from trouble as that 911 call could mean separation forever.

He further cautioned on restrain from getting caught up with DUI as that will see an end to the American dream and all were advised to make use of the opportunities in the Diaspora as they were readily available to those that are determined to work hard.

He amused many when he cautioned the social media from reporting alarming news and further gave an episode where an April’s fools day joke was taken too far. The same had made him to make frantic calls to Nairobi to ascertain if it was true. It was reported that the President had landed in Atlanta on that particular day but it had turned out as April’s fool day that did not go well as far as he was concerned.

He concluded his speech by advising all to maintain their culture and praised Pastor G.G. Gitahi for his great vision.

In every society the world over, culture is an essential part in human development and which at times can tell and define the way of life of a certain community.

Every person spend his or her life within a certain cultural settings and with time defines what kind of person a man or woman is and what values they bring to society.

In most cases cultural environment have a direct effect on the values within a community for anthropology, psychology and sociology?  .

The very nature of the cultural environment is cultural and social aspects or in other terms social context.

It could be where a group of certain person lives and get an education and where people interact within a certain environmental settings form certain perception of life.  They with time start expressing their way of life slowly by their attire, songs dances and even through art.

They easily help and trust each other while creating the social groups and with time, they start having a similar way of thinking leading to similar ideological patterns in their way of life.

Culture therefore plays an important part in defining who people are and what values they bring forth to society.

If we take music for example, we can learn a lot by just listening or watching the beauty, form and color of it and still judge their advancement just by looking at their traditional attires.

In summary, culture have a direct effect on the values within a community for it teaches us to understand their ways of life and it also molds peoples behavior with respect to age groups.

It is for that reason the vision of Pastor GG Gitahi should be taken very serious so that our culture is taught to the children that we are raising here, for in the end, it instill in them, upright and morally acceptable values.

The yearly event should even be made frequent so that the young people can grasp the importance of culture as the habits we learn through culture help us to live in harmony.

Atlanta Majuu festival encompasses a wide range of Kenyan-African culture and somehow try to integrate the same with the American lifestyle.

It is in essence a triple heritage evolving from the past, the immediate Kenyan culture, to the combined current culture and its just amazing to watch children with American twang reciting songs and stories that were sang and told by our ancestors not so long ago.

The Atlanta Majuu bring together all African cultures and watching the elegance event is so fulfilling that many are left craving for more and more after the festive ceremony.

It’s a celebration, it’s praise and worship, it’s interaction, it’s relaxing, it’s meeting people, it’s highlighting what business Kenyans do, its defining our origins, its… its… IT’S EVERYTHING.

Everything that was summarized by a trip to Bahamas and even more to come will be stories of great adventures of a tourist destination where many will be setting their foot for the first time.

We do hope that the next Atlanta Majuu festival will attract other groups especially from other States and even Africa so that we can learn more from other diversified cultures.

Who knows it may end up being called U.S.A. Majuu

Long live Atlanta Majuu!
