It’s a great loss to the Benga music considering that not long ago Kenya lost the master of them all Joseph Kamaru.

Messages of Condolences continue to pour and the latest was sent by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko who described DeMathew as a great Musician.

Ndamenyanire na John De Mathew ndathii Coro FM in 2002…. ndagīraga nyīmbo ciake ha  Kamau Promise na Tiriki back in the days when promoters were the in thing. John De Mathew or simply ithe wa Ciku had such a good heart. Any time he opened his mouth to say Seiya, the crowd would get total satisfaction.

We did many Coro FM roadshows together and as the MC of most of the events I would love his performance. John De Mathew, a real KingPin in the Kikuyu community and more so the music industry. John managed to do so much for the artists both the new and the old, gospel and secular, young and old. He had a touch.

He joins my friends Makibi James, Sam Muraya, Sam Kinuthia, Queen Jane, Murugami, Joseph Kamaru, Salim Junior and the rest who have all gone to the grave….  Fare Thee well my brother. Rest in Peace and may God’s grace be sufficient to Ciku na Nyina wa Ciku, the entire family, musicians and fans… Thiī ūhoro John…
