KESSA Gives Hope to Scholarly And Scientific Research In Kenya

Every year, Kenyan academic giants meet for a conference that is organized by the Kenya Scholars & Studies Association (KESSA) and this year, the conference took place on 12th -13th at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, Georgia.

The conference as defined in KESSA WEBSITE is organized to promote scholarly, scientific and research work in or about Kenya in all scholarly disciplines and persuasions, and encourage and facilitate the dissemination of information, publications, and other scholarly work.

Dr George Njoroge who is a senior research fellow at Lily and famous for the discovery of the hepatitis drug anti-HCV viral drug Victrelis, was among the notable speakers.

Others were Dr. Wamwari Waichungo who is Coca-Cola’s Vice President for Global Scientific and Regulatory Affairs.

She leads Coca-Cola’s efforts to evaluate and substantiate the safety and efficacy of ingredients, products and packaging. In addition, her team is responsible for ensuring the regulatory compliance of all ingredients, products and packaging.

Through her efforts, KESSA was patented in one of the famous Coca Cola brand bottle named after the company and known all over the world as simply “Coke”.

The other notable speaker was Dr Joanna Masingila-Dean School of Education Syracuse University.

Joanna Masingila was named Dean of the School of Education on March 17, 2015.

She is a professor of mathematics and mathematics education, and was named a Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence in 2003. She has been at Syracuse University since finishing her Ph.D. in mathematics education at Indiana University-Bloomington in 1992. Prior to her doctoral work, she taught secondary mathematics for six years.

It was a time for serious discussions mixed with fun as the team also visited the world of Coca Cola and as usual a jovial Professor Jerono posted the tour in her face book page.

This is an extremely good forum and we do hope that KESSA initiative if not already in place, will eventually bear fruits and assist our country in the field of research and dissemination of knowledge.
