A Kenyan lady going by the name Veronica from Atlanta Georgia just like all Kenyans came to America with great expectations,…to chase the “American dream.
She was an energetic hard working Kenyan that wanted to live a life of comfort away from home Kenya, until that fateful day April 7th 2018 when she was pulled over by a cop due a minor traffic offence but it was not all that minor as soon after her World came crushing down after they later realized that she was out of status.
The comfort of the car she was driving that day, came to an end as what followed thereafter, was a life of mixing with other hardcore criminals in a small prison in South Georgia. It was over for Veronica who somehow kept to herself and for that matter, it took a long time for Kenyans to know that one of them was missing and suffering in jail.
All the same as they say no man in an Island, Veronica had a black America friend that took it upon herself to help her come out of her predicament but because she was seeking help from a few circle of friends, it never worked out. We are told that she even sought help from the local Kenyan community churches who in a way refused to assist claiming that she was not a member of any of the Kenyan churches. A sad experience that led her to describe our Kenyan churches with some unprintable despicable words.
We are told that contrary to that statement, Veronica was at one time an active member of Christ Harvesters Church and due to her financially stability, she would even bail out the church from some of it’s many financial woes and if our source is an authentic rumor, she had even given the same church $10,000 dollars loan.
She all the same may have left the church prematurely even before her soul could be harvested and stored as evidence come judgment day by the Charismatic and most eloquent Preacher Apostle Karanja. (Those that have the habit of saying don’t drag the pastors name into this,… and our answer to them is “Call a spade a spade and never hide evil to dwell amongst us”)
When the writer got wind that she used to be a member of Christ Harvesters, he personally telephoned the Apostle who was by that time attending a children group seminar in Kenya and surprisingly got a lukewarm reply to the effect that he knew her and would try to reach out to her. That was as far as the matter ended for it never happened.
When we castigate our Local Kenyan churches for segregating Kenyans that do not attend their churches, due to the fact that the same Kenyans don’t help them financially, we come to the conclusion that Churches are just a business venture dealing with those members that dig deep into their pockets only.
What happened to the old time religion that would preach love for all? Love for that beggar that would attend without an offering, Love for that poor woman that would attend and donate an egg or a maize cob. Try that today and you may be forced to eat that egg raw.
Meanwhile Veronica has been in Custody for over one year two months and Kenyans are desperately trying to bail her out. The President of Kenyan Parents in USA made a passionate appeal on whatsapp groups and in a way Kenyans woke up and started spreading the appeal message.
We could be talking of $10,000 bond but that is not all as Veronica may become a public charge as jobs are not easy to come along after one gets out of prison and therefore, she may need more money for upkeep as she try to fight her case to make her status legal or worse still face deportation.
It is for this reason that the President of Kenyan Parents in USA approached the giant women organization called KWITU. We are not here castigating the good work this generous group of women are doing and also the good work some Kenyan Churches are doing but stressing the need for helping a Kenyan in need whether she or he belongs to a church or a particular group.
We are our brother’s keepers and as such common sense can override policy at times and when we say that KWITU and other giant women and men organization should post her plea in their groups and not say this is a Georgia affair as we are trying to help a Kenyan.
Georgia KWITU are all the same trying which is a good effort but the case should receive a more wider support as we may be looking at close to $30,000 to help this lady.
We have Kenyans though few this time unanimously saying “let us help our Kenyans in problems while living and not when they go into the coffins”. A fact that many overlook but is a fact to the effect that we sympathize with the dead more than the living.
David Ogega of OKIDO pointed the main problem as systemic or widespread, the churches that have become cash clubs for members only, the tribes purposely confined, tribal inclination, … Kenyans should now truly address the issues now or else they will keep on repeating. We need all to Unite not as tribes not as KWITU not as Churches, not as tribal groups but as KENYANS.
Mutuma of Atlanta did not spare churches and even KWITU and had a barrage of words almost ending up with a challenge to post a video to an infamous group in Kenya but all ended well and all once again focused to the agenda.
The case is of humanitarian nature and the same has touched the outgoing Ambassador Dr. Robinson Githae to overlook diplomatic policies and went ahead to donate through the writer $100.00 towards this worthwhile cause. Mr Githae did it not as an Ambassador but as a Kenyan with a heart for a Kenyan suffering in jail. He also disclosed to the writer that in case Veronica has documentation issues, she will be attended at the Embassy in DC to facilitate renewal of passports and any other Kenyan document that she may require.
It is for this reason that policies can be overlooked and thrown out of the window to allow common sense to dwell amongst us.
POLICY OR NO POLICY POST VERONICA’S CASE AND THOSE OF OTHER KENYAN SUFFERING IN ALL YOUR GROUPS TO BRING THIS ISSUE TO AN END IN A HURRY TO LET PEOPLE MAKE A DECISION.
Veronica’s case is one among many but if Kenyans are United, the burden should not be left to a few individuals for all KENYANS should also help even those in KWITU and many other Diaspora groups when it comes to a calamity.
If we may have attacked KWITU by singling it out, it is because it’s the only large women group and hereby wish to tell its members that we have no malice as we here take a bow and may what you read not go beyond your conscience.
Many naïve lot will also say “leave the Churches alone” Leave our Pastors alone, but we have to remind them that churches are buildings and Pastors are humans that are leading Kenyans to receive not only salvation but molding them to be whole persons. We have no grudge against anyone but the policies held by such institutions as all Kenyans should be guided irrespective of whether they attend church or not.. Jesus would even go out to reach the poor and downtrodden in mountains and valleys and that is the genius of the matter.
We also wish to bring the discussion to an end and concentrate on donating to this cause that have dragged on for a very long time.
However with all the disagreements and comments on groups, we take this opportunity to sincerely thank those Kenyans that have come to Veronica’s assistance and do hope that this case will be an awakening so that we can all unite and even go back to rejoicing in Churches just as it was like in the beginning. “Give me that old time religion X3, it’s good enough for me”.
