Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga today held meetings with political and community leaders from the Mt. Kenya region for consultations on the state of affairs in the country with particular focus on the Building Bridges Initiative.
Mr Odinga had a breakfast meeting with senators from Kirinyaga, Muranga, Laikipia, Nyandarua and Nyeri. Kiambu senator was absent with apologies. He later held talks with governors Kiraitu Murungi of Meru and Francis Kimemia of Nyandarua at his offices. The two governors were accompanied by officials of the Mt. Kenya Foundation Mr Peter Munga and Titus Kirea Ibui.

The leaders reviewed the BBI and its implications for matters critical to Central Kenya including Agriculture, Representation, Youth Empowerment, Sharing of Revenue, national unity and overall economic well-being of the nation. They also exchanged views on the scourge of corruption which has affected sectors critical to the economy of central Kenya and the nation as a whole.
The two groups expressed support for the Building Bridges Initiative and the political dispensation taking shape in the country. They expressed Central Kenya’s readiness to host BBI consultation forums.
The leaders also expressed support for the working relationship between Mr Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, which has created a stable environment for business and co-existence of communities. They agreed to hold more consultations in the interest of the country.
