The Houston Community led by Robert Cheruiyot as treasurer, Dr.Dan Magubi, Rutto Janeth of Dallas,  and greatly boosted by D.J. Brian Bor among many others, managed to raise the required amount for transportation of the late Geoffrey Chepkwony body that was found on Saturday August 29th  in the bayou at 49 San Jacinto Street Houston, Texas.

The mother had appealed to Kenyans to help her repatriate the body and in a rare show of concern to the bereaved, Kenyans from all over USA, managed to raise the required $25,000 in a record time never witnessed before in USA fundraising history.

The former roommate, Sam Mayaka, has the Power of attorney from the mother in Kenya to get the body released to him inorder to be able to send the same to the family in Kenya.

It was not only the Houston Community that participated in the exercise, but Kenyans all over USA sent and are still sending their donations to the organizing committee.

Dr. Dan Mugubi, one of the Kenyan community leaders in Houston, greatly assisted in mobilizing Kenyans through various groups to assist and it was overwhelming.

Many thanks also goes to Attorney Laban Opande who greatly assisted in legal technicalities.

We have recently lost many Kenyans in the Diaspora due to depression, mental illness and others as a result of Covid-19 and the tread is worrying.

We need to rethink on how we can raise awareness on the rise of the many cases of depression and address the same through seminars, and other media awareness, so that we can at least reduce the ever rising cases that are reported daily.
