“The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”
― Albert Einstein
When Roselyn Akombe fled Kenya in 2017, she said her life was threatened. Every Kenyan had no reason to doubt her fears at the time, because a few days earlier, her comrade, the IEBC commissioner, Mr. Christopher Chege Msando, had been brutally murdered. On December 28, 2022, the Kenya media reported that Akombe returned to Kenya, meaning that her life is no longer in danger.
In some of the Kenya dailies on July 31, 2020, Akombe said and I quote, “Chris Msando, the commission’s slain ICT manager, was led to the slaughter house, by commission insiders”. Akombe further said that authorities were not willing to arrest Msando’s killers, accusing the ODPP of laxity. And in a serries of tweets, Akombe put the IEBC on the spot, saying Msando’s colleagues sold him out to his killers.
Now that Akombe’s life is no longer threatened and is back to Kenya, she should expose the names of those from the IEBC, who led Chris Msando, the commissions ICT manager, to the slaughter house?. Most Kenyans would wish to know those Msando’s colleagues, who sold him out to his killers, as claimed by Akombe? While in USA, Akombe was quoted to have tweeted the following: “…Painful that instead on this day three years ago, your own colleagues led you to the slaughterhouse. Like Judas, they sold you for thirty cents, we will find justice for you, no matter how long it takes”.
One of the many questions which now linger in the minds of many Kenyans, is whether Akombe has returned to Kenya to spill the beans regarding the names of those who were responsible for the murder of Msando, or whether she has returned to take over the Chairmanship of the IEBC from Chebukati, who is retiring in just a few days.
If the latter is the reason for her return to Kenya, can the possibility be ruled out, that the offer of the IEBC Chairmanship to Akombe, would be to silence her for good, never to spill the beans about the names of the Msando’s killers? Nevertheless, since the death of Chris Msando is still fresh in the minds of most Kenyans, Akombe is bound to fulfill her promise to Msando’s spirits when she tweeted, “we will find justice for you, no matter how long it takes”. Nonetheless, whether Roselyn Akombe has returned to Kenya to take over the Chairmanship of the IEBC from Chebukati, to expose the names of all those IEBC staff, who she claimed lured Msando to what she called the “slaughterhouse”, or just fallen into a trap? It’s yet to be seen.
